Guitar, Vocals, Sound Engineer
Lynn Cantwell was born into a musical family with his mother singing alto in an “Andrews Sisters” style quartet and his father playing trombone for a Big Band in Southern California. In high school he caught the Folk Music bug and learned guitar and singing in the style of The Kingston Trio, Joan Baez, and the mainline Folk and Blues artists. In college in California he began performing with other musicians at several music bistros including the Penny University and the Golden Ring.
Over the years Lynn has played with many musical groups and added mandolin, banjo, autoharp, and other folk instruments. More recently, Lynn joined the bluegrass band “The Mill Creek Boys” where he played guitar and sang lead and harmony. It was with them that he learned from some of the California bluegrass masters like David Dickey II and Berl Barnes. Lynn played regularly with them for 8 years and at most of the Southwestern Festivals and performed on their CD “Florida Rose.” He also provided the sound engineering for most of their performances.
After retiring, Lynn moved to Whidbey Island, Washington and quickly joined local jam groups with whom he became a founding member of “Bayview Sound” in 2009, performing on and around Whidbey. Lynn and his wife Debbie also provide sound reinforcement for the Band and for other groups and events.
